GLWT

GLWT

This is a song I wrote for kids leaning music in high school. It’s got everything they need to work on in small ensemble or big band, but also gives them the chance to be a bit cheeky and tell their parents and teachers just exactly what they can do with all their rules and expectations. The film was made for one of our own important high school teachers, a person the song reminded me of a lot, but I’m sure he’ll be happy for you to share as well.

When I was a little child,

Living life on high,

My head was empty,

Like a cloudless sky.

Now you’ve all decided,

Amongst yourselves,

That suddenly it’s time for me

To be someone else.

Well, all that I can say is…

Good luck with that!

All that I can say is…

Good luck with that!

‘Cause I don’t see it happening too soon.

I don’t understand how I’m to move,

From head up in the sky down to the ground.

It feels like you’re killing me!

You say I need a diary,

To regulate my life.

You fill my head with knowledge,

Like I’m some kind of hard-drive.

What you don’t understand yet,

When you give me that strange look,

Is that I’m my own person,

I don’t do things by the book.

So all that I can say is…

Good luck with that!

Yes, all that I can say is…

Good luck with that!
