The Faith Song
Something I’ve felt very strongly about since my own childhood education is the issue of faith in a secular society. I am not a faith holder, but I do of course have the same questions that all believers have: why are we here, what’s life about, what do the empty feelings mean, why do people hurt each other? Some people have faith and some don’t, but the human condition remains the same.
And then we have culture. We teach our children to celebrate festivals with religious heritage, sometimes taking out the religious element without explanation, leaving our children (and often ourselves) wondering what it’s all about.
The Faith Song is the perfect song to sing at times like Christmas or when discussing religion, the human condition, history or culture. It acknowledges children’s experiences and concerns and offers them a big song to get their lungs around.
Kids love singing in and in 2016 we had 150 multi-cultural Dutch children ranging from 4 to 13 years old, belting it out into a cold December night, dressed in their finest Christmas clothes layered up with coats, hats and gloves. The sound was quite impressive!
